ADDITION TO RESERVE POLICY

The 2021 budget provided $43 million over 4 years to  Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC ) to work with Indigenous partners and stakeholders to redesign the federal Addition to Reserve Policy and to accelerate work on existing requests from First Nations across the country. $10.8 million of that funding was to be used for CIRNAC to engage with First Nations and other stakeholder to redesign the ATR Policy with the remaining $32.2 million to address existing ATRs.

As part of this engagement process, FSIN held an all-day in person engagement forum on March 18, 2024 in Saskatoon and a virtual session on March 20, 2024. These forums provided information on the ATR reform initiative as well as soliciting First Nations’ views on problems with the current ATR process and recommendations for improvement.
